First Day of School

The first day is over! It's so interesting to me that the first day is the most important day..but I would agree with that. There's a lot to establish between teacher and student..plus students are secretly excited to be there. It's kind of a neat experience to be a part of from a teaching standpoint.
I think today went really well. It was so fun to meet my students and get things rolling. Just a couple of little things went wrong, but nothing major..actually I think it's all pretty much fixed now :) Yay.

One of my favorite conversations of the day:
Group of students: "Hey, Ms. Nies..can we cha-cha the definition for this word?"
Me: "Aah, no."
Students: "Do you even know what cha-cha is?..."
(They were surprised to know that I did! Weird. But I think they got a kick out of it)

I also gave a little survey to the students to get to know them a little better...here's a sampling of the results..
Random fact about yourself:
  • "I have a spot of white hair that's nauteral."
  • "I listen to bizzare music"
  • "I love anything to do with Iceland."
  • "My dad was hit by a buffalo"
  • "I have glass over my eye"
  • "I can talk."
Favorite hobbies:
  • "youtube, texting, and reading"
Favorite Subject in school:
  • "not math"

I love these kids already. :) It's going to be a great school year!
